Kids and Crested Butte

  • Behind the lure of the toys in the window, the Pooh's Corner toystore allows brief respite for the kids in your group. Far from your average Wal-Mart, Pooh's Corner carries unique, specialty items that your children may not normally see. Stop by for a 10-minute looksie or buy a few souvenirs to keep the little ones busy in the condo while you relax.

  • Sometimes all it takes is a little water and a lot of imagination. My kids have spent hours, literally, just hanging out and playing in the Slate River, where smooth black rocks become currency in a shopping/trading game, and the dog snoops underneath low-hanging branches chases sticks. Or travel a little farther to Gunnison and visit the Blue Mesa Reservoir, on one of those warm, soon-to-be-hot Colorado summer days. Experience a simple picnic of sandwiches and soda as your dog bites at the waves lapping the lake shore and your kids run back and forth into the shallow surf. This is truly the simple life.

  • Kapow - the snow hits my face and the laughter fills my ears as we tumble out of the sled. Yet another fun day in Crested Butte, playing on the local sledding hill. Located near the Crested Butte Nordic Center, you can first ice skate for free (or rent skates for a nominal fee) during public open skate times. When you're done, have some hot chocolate and popcorn while you warm up.
